11 – Sanico – Monte Pizzocolo and return
Loop trail: Toscolano-Sanico, Monte Pizzocolo, Dos de la Prade, Sant'Urbano, Sanico
Description: The route starts from Sanico, on the outskirts of Toscolano Maderno and continuing on the road you will find a junction for Mt Pizzocolo, CAI trail 287 ex 27. The trail becomes difficult at the fork for the Est (east) crest which is not marked. The trail is a high mountain trail, requiring a good deal of experience. Once you reach the top of Mt Pizzocolo there is a spectacular view, unique in Italy for its beauty and its panorama which opens out onto Lake Garda. Continue along the trail until you reach Dos de la Prade, named for its ample meadow. Descend, passing Cà di Prada bivac, until you reach Sant'Urbano. Here you take a right for Buelino and there you go down left to Sanico. Environmental description: route with various types of mid mountain environment: meadows, humid woods, wildflowers, bird snares. Historical border markers present. Traces of military trenches and posts and village architecture. Equipment: Abundant water, energy bars, lightweight pack with rainproof poncho, flashlight, trail map. Sack lunch. On Mt Pizzocolo it is possible to camp the night at the “!Due Arcieri” bivac or at the “Cà di Prada” bivac. CAI trails: 206 ex6 – 287 ex27 and ex 5 – 223 ex 23 – 206 ex 6 Length of time: 8 hrs.
